Goodyear, in the far west Phoenix metro area, with a population of a little over 50,000 people is the home to spring training for the Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Indians. It is a beautiful community in the west valley where the allure of award winning master planned community of Estrella has been drawing people who seek a lifestyle that offers it all. Lakeside parks, an incredible community center a buzz with activities for all ages, lush grassy commons, perfectly trimmed trees shading the interconnected walkways throughout the community and fair home prices. The Estrella Mountains rise up majestically in the background, providing a landscape and outdoor activities all within minutes that can only be found in Arizona.
Goodyear is a city with many new master planned communities, although many of these do not boast of the same amenities as Estrella, the do offer clean park like common areas, beautiful moderately priced homes and an easy commute to some of the nation’s top employers, such as Lockheed Martin, McLane Sunwest, Cavco Industries, Amazon, Cancer Treatment Centers of America, Snyder’s of Hanover, Poore Brothers, Aero Turbine, Del Monte Fresh Produce, Lufthansa Airline Training Facility, and the Perryville Corrections Facilities to name just a few.
Goodyear is a diverse community with an interesting history. It began with cotton farms that grew a special long grain cotton used in airplane tires for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company. After the cotton market collapsed, the little farming community struggled economically. Then in 1946 with just 151 homes, 250 apartments and grocer, service station and beauty shop, Goodyear incorporated.
In the early 1940’s Goodyear Aircraft Corporation built Dirigibles or "blimps" in Goodyear. From its very inception Goodyear has been a community that was tied to the aerospace industry that still flourishes there today. Goodyear was once also home to the prestigious Navy Blue Angels, because its relatively low population density offered a great place for them to train. In 1968, however the airfield was sold to the city of Phoenix and is now the Phoenix – Goodyear Airport.
Goodyear offers all the retail choices of the larger cities in the metro area including Barnes & Noble, Best Buy, BevMo!, Homegoods, J.C.Penney, La-Z-Boy, Lowe's, Michael's, Office Max, Party City, Petco, PetSmart, Pier 1, Ross Dress for Less, Shoe Carnival, Sport Chalet, Target, Toys R Us/Babies R Us, Super Target and Ulta. It is also home to an equal number of choices inn dining, such as Macaroni Grill, TGI Friday's, Applebee's, Black Angus, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, Chili's, Cracker Barrel, P.F.Chang's, McGrath's and Macayo's. If you are looking for something a bit more upscale the Wigwam resort is a mile away and is a four star resort that offers a great place to golf, dine or just get away for the weekend.
Goodyear has in recent years experienced a steady growth due to all it has to offer, including great employers, reasonable home prices, numerous retailers, restaurants, lodging accommodations, heath care facilities, and easy access via Interstate 10 to the rest of the Phoenix metro area. It is worth checking out if you are looking for a smaller city, nestled against one of the valley’s most picturesque mountain ranges and all the attributes befitting the nation’s fifth largest city without being in the heart of it.
