Avondale, AZ Real Estate

Avondale a city of a little over 68,000 people is located approximately 20 minutes southwest of Phoenix. In large metropolitan areas, distance is most commonly measured in minutes; it is quirky but effective practice. Folks in Avondale, who like to be counted as part of the greater Phoenix metro area, most often refer to all relevant valley locations in minutes. It is not that Avondale has no history of its own, it is just one of those suburban communities that actually appreciates its place as part of the larger metropolis of Phoenix, the fifth largest city in America.

Avondale, originally known as Coldwater, was a stop for stage coach drivers making the ardent journey between Arizona and California. Its colorful progenitor, Billy Moore was a bit of a storyteller or embellisher at best, who claimed to have ridden with the infamous Civil War's Quantrill Gang. He purchased the land for his new town for a quarter an acre, and opened a general store, a saloon and a post office. He prospered for a few short years, until the railroad came and established a station on the nearby Avondale Ranch.

Coldwater soon became obsolete and the post office closed. Six years later a new town built up around the railroad station, and because of a postal rule the new post office could not reuse the name Coldwater; so, it took the name of the ranch that the train station occupied. Avondale’s founder is celebrated annually with The Billy Moore Western Heritage Days every October. The event, however, pales in comparison to the enthusiasm generated by another more modern attraction in Avondale.

Avondale is home to the Phoenix International Raceway and it is an immense source of pride and revenue for the city, to say the least. The PIR, as it is more commonly referred to, is where NASCAR fans of all ages flock in droves to watch their favorite drivers racing around the track on the fasted one mile paved oval, providing a thrill to the onlookers until the last lap. Fans can now even take to the wheel themselves at the Richard Petty Raceway, the first-ever high performance kart track within a NASCAR facility. As the name denotes it is a joint venture with the racing legend and PIR.

Kart racing participants put on firesuits, helmets and receive detailed instruction from Richard Petty Driving Experience professionals prior to racing all for just $20.00 per race. It is just another facet to the NASCAR experience at the Phoenix International Raceway. Another lofty boast of the PIR is the new SUBWAY Fresh Fit 600™, which will be the longest Sprint Cup event in track history, and is the first race for sprint cars of the season. As exciting as the PIR and NASCAR are, there is so much more to Avondale.

Avondale is a modern city. The city has experienced a growth rate of 700 percent over the last 10 years.  It is a city comprised of a multitude of beautiful master-planned communities with all the common areas and amenities city dwellers have come to expect. Common areas that provide a pleasing aesthetic touch, neighborhood parks and places to get out and take a leisurely walk or brisk jog with your best friend, be it a two or four legged variety are examples of what you can expect at a minimum in these communities.

Avondale is extremely accessible to visitors from other valley cities as it is served by the loop 101 and interstate 10. Those freeways also makes access for its residents to other destinations equally as easy, whether they are commuting into the valley for events or employment, or heading out for a vacation in the neighboring states of California or Nevada.

The city planners have not missed the importance of their location and the valuable freeway frontage. The Avondale auto mall, numerous hotels, and restaurants are located just off the arties bringing the City of Avondale substantial revenue and employment opportunities. The aggressive general plan of this well run city also includes plans for attracting light industry and developing a medical corridor to further enhance Avondale’s future employment picture.

Avondale is an extremely attractive choice for west valley residents who desire a modern city and want to live work and play in their own community, just ask NFL hall of famer Randall McDaniel who grew up there, and returned recently to cheer on the Aqua Fria High School Home team for their homecoming game.
